Mesquite Symphony Orchestra Membership Gala & Concert featuring Octavio Gutierrez, Piano; the Brookhaven
Choral Society, Melody Gamblin-Bullock director and the Lovers Lane UMC Sanctuary Choir, Jimmy Emery director in a performance of Beethoven’s enchanting Choral Fantasie, Op. 80. In addition, the MSO will perform Christopher Tucker’s Cement 13, which was written for the MSO. The concert will also include William Grant Still’s innovative and joyous Symphony No. 1, The Afro-American. September’s concert is entitled Premiere. Octavio Gutirrez and Melody Gamblin-Bullock are members of the Brookhaven College School of the Arts faculty in Dallas.

Rose-Mary Rumbley, Local Author and Humorist at the Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive on Thursday, September 16th for 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Ms. Rumbley will be the featured speaker during the Main Library’s Customer Appreciation Month. She will present a fun program based on the book, Everything I Ever Need to Know I Learned From a Children’s Book by Anita Silvey. Ms. Rumbley holds a doctorate in communications from the University of North Texas and has taught speech and theatre at Dallas Baptist University for 12 years. She has written six books: four are on her native city of Dallas, one is a cookbook, and one is on the history of the piano.

The Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive welcomes Lexie McGrane from the Texas AgriLife Extension Service on Saturday, September 18th from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. Coinciding with the Saturday storytime, Lexie will present a program on children’s nutrition for parents of school age children. Her presentation, “Catch a Rainbow Every Day,” includes valuable information about the many fruits and vegetables needed in a child’s diet. While the kids enjoy fun-filled story- and crafttime about eating a variety of colorful and healthful foods, parents can become acquainted with their nutritional needs.
